Pediatric Sedation in Orlando
We recognize that dental visits can be challenging for some children, especially those with anxiety, special healthcare needs, or difficulty sitting still. Pediatric sedation provides a safe and effective way to help children feel calm and comfortable during treatment, supporting a more positive experience. Our goal is to help children build healthy, lifelong attitudes toward dental care—ensuring that early experiences are not a source of fear, but the foundation for a lifetime of confident, consistent dental visits.

Why Should I Choose Pediatric Sedation For My Child?
Pediatric sedation is a safe and effective way to help children feel calm and comfortable during dental visits. It’s especially helpful for kids with dental anxiety, special needs, or those requiring complex treatments. By minimizing discomfort and encouraging relaxation, sedation allows for a smoother, more positive experience—often in fewer visits. At City Beautiful Pediatric Dentistry, we tailor sedation options to your child’s specific needs, always prioritizing safety and care.

The Benefits of Pediatric Sedation
Reducing Fear and Dental Anxiety
Visiting the dentist can be intimidating for children, especially if they have a significant amount of treatment needs. Sedation allows your child to feel calm and relaxed, ensuring a more comfortable experience during their dental appointment.
Minimizing Pain and Discomfort
Sedation is highly effective in minimizing any potential pain and discomfort during dental treatments. This not only makes the process smoother for your child but also gives you peace of mind knowing they are comfortable.
Addressing Gag Reflex and Needle Phobia
Certain types of sedation can significantly reduce your child’s gag reflex. This is particularly beneficial for dental work on the back teeth. Sedation also helps alleviate the common fear of receiving local anesthetic to achieve numbness.

Sedation in dentistry primarily serves to alleviate dental anxiety, which helps children remain calm and cooperative during their dental procedures. Many children experience fear or nervousness about dental visits, and sedation can significantly ease these feelings. It's also beneficial for managing discomfort during more involved procedures like tooth extractions, and it helps children who have difficulty staying still for extended periods during treatments.
Pediatric sedation is generally appropriate for children who are in good health and do not have any medical conditions or medications that could negatively interact with the sedation. It's best to consult with us for a personalized assessment. During a consultation, we can discuss your child's specific needs and address any concerns to determine the best option.
Every sedation option feels different.
Laughing gas (nitrous oxide) typically makes children feel relaxed and slightly euphoric. They’ll be fully conscious but won’t experience discomfort. They may laugh throughout the procedure, or experience a slight tingling sensation in their hands and feet that go away as soon as the gas is turned off.
During IV sedation, your child will receive just enough medication for deep sedation or light general anesthesia, during which they will be unconscious but still able to breathe on their own with normal blood pressure and vital signs. Your child will be continuously monitored by our pediatric anesthesiologist as well as nurses and staff before, during, and after the procedure until your child is cleared to go home.
General anesthesia provides the deepest sedation. Your child will be completely unconscious and unable to feel or remember the procedure. This can only be performed in a hospital or accredited surgical center.
Modern anesthesia has never been safer. In the United States, more than one million children under the age of four undergo surgical procedures requiring anesthesia each year. Young children typically do not receive anesthesia unless it is medically necessary. Our office has immediate access to all necessary emergency medications and equipment, along with a written emergency response plan for managing medical situations.
