Why Should My Child Get Emergency Dental Care?
Prompt and professional dental care is essential in relieving your child’s pain and discomfort. Issues such as toothaches, fractured teeth, or other oral health concerns can significantly impact their daily life—affecting their ability to focus in school, participate in activities, and simply enjoy their day. Seeking expert care not only alleviates their discomfort but also helps prevent potential complications that may arise if left untreated. Most importantly, you’ll have peace of mind knowing that your child’s oral health is restored, allowing them to smile, laugh, and thrive with confidence.

The Benefits of Immediate Emergency Dental Care
Alleviation of Pain & Discomfort
A fractured tooth, a dislodged crown, or a throbbing toothache can lead to immense discomfort. The only solution to alleviate this pain is through professional dental care provided by an adept emergency dentist. After receiving treatment at our practice, your child can return to their daily activities without enduring pain or further distress.
Avoid Further Complications
Delaying dental care for your child can often lead to worsening conditions that may become more difficult to treat. For example, a tooth infection detected early can often be resolved with treatments like a pulpotomy or pulpectomy, potentially saving the tooth. However, if left untreated for too long, the infection can cause irreversible damage, leading to the need for extraction and, in severe cases, posing serious health risks such as sepsis—a dangerous, life-threatening response to infection. Prioritizing timely dental care not only protects your child’s smile but also safeguards their overall health and well-being.
Save Time & Money
Seeking prompt dental care for your child not only ensures their comfort but can also prevent the need for more extensive treatments down the road. For instance, addressing a minor tooth fracture with a simple restoration is often a much easier solution than waiting until a crown becomes necessary. By reaching out to a dentist at the first sign of concern, you can help protect your child’s oral health while also minimizing the time and complexity of treatment.

Knocked-out baby teeth are not usually replaced, even if they’re lost prematurely. If it’s a baby tooth, your child will need to come into our office to have their mouth examined and cleaned to prevent infection, and to get a “space maintainer.” This prosthetic will maintain the proper gap between their teeth, preventing the adjacent teeth from shifting toward the now-empty socket.
For an adult tooth, though, you need to get help immediately. Recover the tooth, rinse it, and put it in a container of cold milk to keep it moist. Then, come to our office immediately. Don't spend too much time treating pain or bleeding. Your child’s tooth must be re-attached within 1-2 hours for it to be saved, so time is of the essence. We can treat your child’s pain when they get to our office.
Collect the restoration, crown, or other piece of dental work and place it in a plastic baggie. Then, call us for an appointment, and make sure to bring your child’s dental work in with you. It may be possible to reattach a crown instead of completely replacing it.
A severe toothache could indicate that your child has a large cavity or an infected tooth. You should schedule a consultation at our office right away, as these are both serious dental emergencies that will only get worse without proper treatment.
First, treat their discomfort and bleeding. Then, contact us for an appointment. Even minor tooth damage can cause hairline fractures and these fractures could lead to infections and other complications. After consulting with Dr. Danielle, she can determine the best treatment for restoring the damaged tooth, and ensure your child’s smile remains healthy and strong.
If a baby tooth becomes loose on its own and is not the result of an injury, no immediate action is needed, as this is a natural part of the tooth-shedding process. However, if a tooth becomes loose and is bleeding following an oral injury, it may not be ready to fall out. In this case, a dental evaluation is recommended to assess the tooth’s stability and determine the best course of action. Depending on the situation, Dr. Danielle may advise monitoring the tooth, providing treatment to preserve it, or using a space maintainer if the tooth needs to be removed to ensure proper alignment of the remaining teeth.
